"The only limits we have are those we set ourselves"
As in 2010 and 2011, the club has again secured sponsorship for the Youth Development Squad from local company Technology Farm Ltd. The sponsor’s objective for the scheme remains the same that is to provide support for talented young triathletes with the potential to compete at National & International level, i.e. ultimate aim being to represent GB at Triathlon.
The North West Academy was set up to support this same group of young Triathletes and indeed several COLT members are currently benefiting from a high standard of support in Triathlon training and racing techniques, delivered at monthly sessions by a selection of BTF Qualified Triathlon coaches across the North West clubs.
Regarding distribution of the sponsorship fund for 2012, this year the Club wishes to ensure that the sponsorship fund is available to all COLT members aged 15-19 (BTF Definitions of Youth & Juniors apply) based on merit, so we have decided to distribute the fund based on performance achieved in by COLTs in the 7 Races of the 2012 British Triathlon Youth & Junior SuperSeries (see listing on next page). Of the six races which have been confirmed by the BTF to date, all are open to Juniors (17-19 years); five are open to Youths (15-16 year olds) and one, the inter-regional championships (IRCs) is also open to T2 and T3 athletes (11-14 year olds) who are selected to represent the NW Region. Any COLT triathlete selected to represent the NW region in the IRCs, who is a paid up member on 13th March 2012, will automatically be entered into the sponsorship scheme for this event.
Each qualifying COLT participant in the races will be ranked in finishing order, based on percentage of the winner’s time. Thus males and females will have equal chance of being in the rankings. The top 3 COLT finishers in each designated race will share the sponsorship prize pool as follows:
1st finisher: £70
2nd finisher: £40
3rd Finisher: £20
In addition there will be a 'Junior Elite' team selected for National Relays, for which each team member will receive £20 regardless of finishing order. Last year the COLT Junior girls’ team won the silver medal in the National Relays.
Finally, the remaining funds in the sponsorship pool (recognizing that not all prize money is likely to be claimed for all elite races) will be added to any residual funds from the Salt Ayre Triathlon and Duathlon Junior races organized by COLT this season and made available across the TriStar, Youth and Junior categories for the highest placed COLTs at Fleetwood Triathlon at the end of the 2012 season, on 23th September.
Qualification for sponsorship: Any COLT Youth/Junior wishing to take advantage of Development Squad funding for 2012 must:
1) Be a paid up member by 13 Mar 2012 (one week before closing date for the first event). Triathletes joining after this date, may, at the discretion of the committee be allowed to join the scheme.
2) Have registered their interest with Jennie Hodgson, Sponsorship fund Co-ordinator, by 13 March 2012.
3) Enter qualifying events solely in the name of the club. Note this is “COLT”
4) Confirm availability for the COLT Elite Junior Team, if selected, for the National Club Relays in Nottingham, 25-26 August 2012.
5) Hold a race licence from a Home Nations Triathlon Association showing COLT as your club
6) All Appeals & rulings will be decided by the COLT Committee - decisions will be final.
